The Coubre lighthouse
You can cycle there from camping Tahiti Village in Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, which will be a lovely ride through the forest and along the Atlantic coast.
Built in 1905 and listed as a historic monument, the 300-step Coubre lighthouse is the highest lighthouse on the Charente coast. It houses an eco-museum that retraces the life of the lighthouses in the Gironde estuary.
The climb is rewarded with a unique panorama: from the top of the lighthouse, 64 metres high, your gaze plunges towards the Atlantic Ocean, offering an unbeatable view of the Gironde estuary and its changing colours, but also of the entire surrounding coastline, from the long beaches of La Tremblade to the deep forest of La Coubre. A visit to the La Coubre lighthouse promises to be a thrilling experience, just 11 km from camping Tahiti «La Grande Côte»!
Cordouan lighthouse
Do you dream of visiting the Cordouan lighthouse (Charente Maritime, opposite the Tahiti Village Saint Palais sur mer campsite), the oldest lighthouse in France still in operation? You really can! The keepers of this historic monument welcome you from April to October!
An architectural feat built on the open sea, Cordouan towers majestically into the sky, resisting the onslaught of the tumultuous waters of the Atlantic and Gironde.
Nearby, during your camping holiday Royan, you can also visit other lighthouses and beacons in the Charente Maritime department that help prevent ships from sinking on the Atlantic coast. These include the Baleines lighthouse on the island of Ré, the Chassiron lighthouse on the island of Oléron, and the bout du monde lighthouse in La Rochelle. And if you're going on a cruise, don't forget to visit Fort Boyard!
