Saint Sauvant, a small village full of character, 59 kilometres from the 3-star tahiti village campsite in Charente maritime

Saint-Sauvant

Saint-Sauvant, perched on a rocky outcrop, is a village with a rich medieval heritage located 59 km from our campsite.

Its winding, flower-filled streets lead to charming sites such as the Tour Carrée and the Romanesque church of Saint-Sylvain. This village, once a stopover for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela, is also famous for its many springs that have been converted into wash-houses.

Don't forget to take a seat in the medieval gardens and admire the views over the Coran valley. Saint-Sauvant promises a peaceful, authentic atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing holiday stroll!

Esnandes

Esnandes, just north of La Rochelle, 88 km from our campsite, boasts a unique historical heritage and varied landscapes. It is without doubt one of the most beautiful villages in Charente-Maritime.

The fortified church of Saint-Martin, dating from the twelfth century, is notable for its defensive architecture. The Musée de la Mytiliculture, renamed Maison de la Baie du Marais Poitevin, presents the cultivation of mussels and the history of the Baie de l'Aiguillon, an important ecological area in the region. You can also discover the Pointe Saint-Clément and enjoy panoramic views of the bay, cliffs and traditional carrelets.

Marennes-Hiers-Brouage beachBureau

Marennes-Hiers-Brouage, 28 km from our campsite, is a commune in Charente-Maritime renowned for its high-quality oysters, produced in Marennes and celebrated at the Cité de l'Huître.

The port of La Cayenne is famous for its colourful huts and oyster farming. For a panoramic view, head to the church of Saint-Pierre de Sales, which offers a splendid view from the top of its 85-metre bell tower.

The village of Marennes-Hiers-Brouage is also home to the Château de la Gataudière, a historic monument. Marennes-Plage, opposite the Ile d'Oléron, is ideal for swimming in the Atlantic Ocean.

Crazannes

One of the beautiful villages in Charente-Maritime to discover is Crazannes. Crazannes, located in the Saintonge region (50 minutes from the Tahiti Village campsite), is famous for its stone quarries, which have been exploited for over twenty centuries. These quarries, whose stone has been used to build famous monuments, are now a protected natural site.

Visitors can take a tour of the old quarries and admire the diverse flora, including ferns and orchids. This charming village is also home to the Château de Crazannes, a well-preserved medieval building.

La Tremblade

La Tremblade, located on the Arvert peninsula (16 km from our campsite), is an attractive village known for its typical oyster port. The phare de la Coubre promises a unique panoramic view after climbing its 300 steps.

La Tremblade's daily market offers regional produce, and the commune is a major oyster-producing centre. The surrounding maritime pine forests are perfect for holiday cycling.

Le Château-d'Oléron

Another not-to-be-missed village in Charente-Maritime, this time on the island of Oléron: Le Château-d'Oléron. Situated at the south-eastern tip of the island of Oléron, Le Château-d'Oléron is famous for its citadel, built on the orders of Richelieu in 1630 and completed under Vauban.

This authentic village, just 45 minutes from our campsite, is home to a lively oyster-farming port and artists' huts, where around thirty artists exhibit their work throughout the year. There are many other villages in Charente-Maritime that combine charm and authenticity, but some are further away from our campsite by the sea near Royan. Visit Loix, Saint-Martin-de-Ré, Ars-en-Ré or La Flotte if you don't mind a bit of driving!
